EDOARDO MOLINARI: INTERVISTA AL CAMPIONE - AN INTERVIEW TO THE CHAMPION

Su cosa stai lavorando, a livello tecnico e come approccio mentale?

We often speak about resilience in sport and life, the ability to face adversity and fatigue, the capability to adapt to change, as a winner.
Regard to this, Edoardo Molinari is a positive example. At the end of 2012 he was among the top golf players in the world ranking, then the wrist injury has kept him standing for some time and he has had to start far behind.
In his book "18 holes" he describes how over the years he has had alternating wins and losses, memorable seasons and others to forget, but he has never given up.
Interviewing him on this subject has been a nice confirmation.

What are the energies and capacities, first as a man and then as an athlete , that you have performed to overcome the difficulties that you have encountered in these last years of your career?
Of course, in order to play again a good golf, I have made many sacrifices. A lot of patience was involved too, because after two years of injuries it's hard to come back at top level.

What's the worst enemy in these situations?
The fear of not being able to get back physically at 100%. The technical aspect can always improve, but without health you can't do anything!

Why Sean Foley, which role has he had in all of this?
I have chosen Sean because I had to restart from zero and I wanted to become a better player than before: he was the only one I trusted blindly. And the results are starting to confirm this.

Golf as metaphor for life. What have you learned in this period?
I've learned that in life there are many more important things than a missed putt or a wrong shot! And I've also understood who really loves me.

You're now returning to the levels you deserve. What are you working on technically and mentally?
I'm working a lot with Sean to improve even more my technique and consistency.

Make a wish.
That I can play for the rest of my career without suffering any other serious injury.

PERCHE' GIOCO A GOLF? - WHY DO I PLAY GOLF?

Buon golf!!!

Simple answer: I play golf because I can not live without it.

The truth is that everyone does things for different reasons.

In golf, as in many sports, you play for one main reason:

- There are "agonists" players,  those that "if I do not play tournaments, I do not enjoy the game," who return at home happy if they did the score, lowering the hcp, sad if they have had a bad day.
- There are players "I'm going for a walk", "it's a beautiful day and staying in such a lovely place fills me with joy." Unlikely to return home disconsolate, because the main goal is to be there.
- There are "couplesplayers, who want to stay with their husband or wife.
- There are "socialplayers, those who "play golf for business and relationships". They are the ones that when you're on the field with them always try to understand your job, your company: at the end of the day they give you their business card.
- There are "motivationalplayers, for whom "golf is a metaphor for life and the course is a gym to become a better person." For these players the result of the 18 holes is important, but only as a symbol of personal growth, like a pat on the back which means "good, now you have managed well both success and defeat, you have taken a step forward as a human being."

There are no right or wrong reasons why, they are all valid to play this wonderful sport, where everyone can find their own place.

I feel I belong to a mix of these categories, but mainly to the last, the "motivational" players.

For me it is essential to play well, in relation to my handicap, but even more aware on how to live my positive and negative emotions, which in 18 holes are always there.
The very positive moments are dangerous, golf makes you go up and down in 5 minutes. The "golf frustration" moments that assail you when you have a series of bad shots one after the other makes you only desire to leave. You learn that you have to accept these negative feelings and start again, with patience, without being uptight with themselves, but being encouraging.

Sometimes you just have to wait for the end of the storm, to see the sun again.

This is for me the game of golf and for this reason I can not live without it.

Happy golf!!!

LA RESILIENZA COME VALORE DI SUCCESSO - THE RESILIENCE AS KEY FACTOR

Buon golf e buona resilienza!!!

The resilience is one of the trends of this historical period. But what is that?
In metallurgy is the ability of a material to absorb energy when it is deformed elastically and resist, but it is well know in our age for the psychological meaning.

Psychological resilience is defined as an individual’s ability to properly adapt to stress and adversity.
Individuals demonstrate resilience when they can face difficult experiences and rise above them with ease.

There are many books talking about that, approaching life or sports and they are really helpful to inspire a new point of view and find new energy, on a golf course or in our everyday life.

Happy golf and life!!!

DOVE GIOCARE A GOLF IN ITALIA . WHERE TO PLAY GOLF IN ITALY - GC VILLA CAROLINA

Buon golf!!!

This time the golf course is in the South of Piedmont, between Alessandria and Genova, not so far from Milano.
It's the GC Villa Carolina, in the Monferrato area, where the temperature is often mild, thanks to the Ligurian sea.

The course has 27 holes, that in October are going to be 36, the Marchesa course and the Paradiso course, entirely inside an ancient park.

I played the Marchesa course, the 18 holes, challenging but for every ability.
Each hole is different and it gives different feelings. To mention the hole 8, par 5 450 mt., that has a lake on the left just before the green, that force a scary approach.
After, the hole 11 is the hcp1, par 4 400 mt.. No room for mistakes. Trees on both sides and 2 bunkers on the green sides.
Very interesting course, to play at least ones in a life time.

All the amenities are top level, as the club house and the pro shop, the restaurant offers its customers the typical specialties of this land, as truffles and mushrooms, typical wines like Barbera, Dolcetto and Cortese.
The hotel has 20 rooms in a ancient style in total tranquility and relax.

Interesting place where to stay.
Happy golf!!!
